Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient completion of conducting telescopic materials handler operations including:

applying operational safety

accessing, interpreting and applying technical information

calculating volume and weights maintaining equipment written records

applying fault finding techniques

accessing, interpreting and applying environmental management plan

carrying out machine operator maintenance

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the conducting of telescopic materials handler operations that meets all the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

using load handling communication methods with all parties

using conventional hand and audible signals

demonstrates completion of conducting telescopic materials handler operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

performing pre-start, start-up, park-up and shutdown procedures

checking controls, brakes and attachments for manoeuvrability and serviceability and rectifying or reporting faults

operating the telescopic materials handler

selecting, attaching and securing appropriate slings and lifting gear

shifting the load

selecting, removing and fitting attachments

transporting the machine and equipment between work sites

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when conducting telescopic materials handler operations:

telescopic materials handler types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

techniques for calculating safe working loads

telescopic materials handler and attachment operating techniques related to essential tasks

isolation and traffic control responsibilities and authorities

safety data sheet and materials handling methods

methods of changing machine attachments

safe operating techniques in varying terrain

basic calculations

levelling techniques

job safety analyses/safe work method statement
